The Interconnection Nightmare: How to Avoid Series A and B Mismatches in Your Project
The Fatal Error The most common (and expensive) mistake in large-diameter piping is assuming that a 36″ Series A flange will mate with a 36″ Series B flange. They will not. The bolt circle and number of bolts are completely different.
1. Planning for the Future Series A is generally the global preferred standard for new infrastructure because it is more robust. However, many existing refineries were built using Series B. DTC always asks our clients to verify the existing flange series before we begin production. Replacing a mismatched 48″ flange on-site can cost a project weeks of delay and tens of thousands in crane fees.
