Flange Facing Types: Raised Face (RF) vs. Ring Type Joint (RTJ)
1. Raised Face (RF) – The Workhorse The most common facing type. It features a small area (usually 1/16″ or 1/4″ high) raised above the bolting circle. This concentrates more pressure on the gasket, ensuring a reliable seal for standard Class 150-600 applications.
2. Ring Type Joint (RTJ) – The High-Pressure Specialist Features a deep groove machined into the flange face. A metallic ring gasket (Octagonal or Oval) is placed in the groove. When bolted, the metal-to-metal contact creates an incredibly tight seal.
