Wall Thickness Reduction Because Duplex has nearly double the yield strength of austenitic stainless steels, you can often design the piping system with a lower wall thickness (Schedule) while maintaining the same pressure rating. Solving the Chloride Stress Corrosion Cracking (CSCC) Problem Standard 300-series stainless steels are notorious for failing suddenly in chloride-rich environments (like offshore or coastal desalination) due to CSCC. Duplex is inherently resistant to this failure mode.
