Why “Dual Certification” in A105/LF2 is the Strategic Choice for Global Inventory

The Brittle Fracture Risk For engineers operating in regions with significant seasonal temperature swings (e.g., Northern Europe, Canada, or Central Asia), specifying A105 alone is a risk. If the ambient temperature drops below -29°C (-20°F), standard A105 loses its toughness.

1. The Value of Dual Certification At DTC Flowtech, we often provide components with Dual Certification (A105/A350 LF2). By controlling the chemistry (lower Carbon, higher Manganese) and performing the Charpy impact test, we produce a product that meets both standards. For a procurement manager, this means one stock item can serve both standard and low-temperature projects, reducing inventory complexity.

2. Specifying Beyond the “Standard” DTC Expert Tip: When ordering A350 LF2, always specify if you require Class 1 or Class 2. Class 1 is the most common for low-temp service, while Class 2 is used when higher strength is needed at the cost of slightly less extreme low-temperature ductility.

3. Traceability as Insurance In a failure investigation, the first document requested is the MTC 3.1. DTC’s commitment to full chemical and impact test transparency ensures that your pipeline is compliant with international safety codes (like ASME B31.3), protecting your project from the catastrophic costs of material-related failure.
